"Just to say thank you for facilitating my session with Star. Really enjoyed it and was, as last time, very impressed with Star's strength and aggression (although she's such a lovely lady). Please pass on my thanks to Star and I will be looking forward to hopefully meeting her again in about six months."

"Gigi 0-0 The Amazing Spider-Mouth

I said my goodbyes to Flame and Penny as they headed for home.  Gigi changed into all black gym gear and warmed up for the match.  Gigi and I shook hands and the fight began.  She grabbed my neck and went for the take down, but I planted my feet, grabbed her round the body for control and stood my ground.  We both tried to take the other down on our own terms but it was Gigi who succeeded in pulling me to the mats where the real scrapping started in earnest.  We fought with a high intensity from the outset and there was no let-up in the pace as we were each determined to wear the other down to take advantage.  I managed to get on top and the pin count started 2 or 3 times but never reached the count of 3.  Gigi was using a lot of energy trying to propel me off and I was happy to use up her strength while on top.  I tried to get her arms ub beside her head to work for a pin or an elbow lock but she was really strong and wrestled her way clear.  Eventually she propelled me off and we rolled side on for an intense struggle.  I knew that if she got me in a school girl pin, I might not be able to prevent the pin to a count of 3.  So I fought hard to prevent her getting within 2 steps of getting the school girl pin on.  We tussled hard with plenty of verbal taunting (all good humoured) and Gigi managed to get the full mount position.  I was on my back looking up at her, wrestling her arms one way then the other, trying to move out to the side as she tried to plant my arms either side of my head.  I pulled one of her arms towards my other arm so as I could grab her wrist and free one of my arms to push up off the canvas and work an opening for an escape.  I managed to force my way forward and back on top of her, giving 100% effort as we were clearly very well matched.  The sweat was dripping off me we agreed to towel down after 20 minutes of intense competitive action.

I was wary of the variety of take downs that Gigi had already attempted and had been told by Flame and Penny that Gigi was particularly good at takedowns.  I was very alert as we squared up to each other and the takedown was controlled once it came.  I was straight into my Spider defence, capturing once of her legs, but it was tough to keep it trapped and at one point I had to grab her ankle with my hand to stop her from pulling the leg free.  I managed to get the leg scissor back on and then work into a position where I was applying the body scissors to Gigi.  She rolled onto her side ant I took full advantage to follow up the momentum rolling her onto her back.  I pressed my body down against hers and tied to push her arms to the mats, pushing my own forehead into the mats with determination to pin her down.  She struggled hard and there was never a time when both of her shoulders were down.  It was hard work, but if I was not sweating so much, I’d try to keep this up for 2 hours!  It was an exceptionally good challenge and I could see that the bout would either end score-less or be won or lost by a single point.  We continued to try and ware eachother down but we were both still pouring energy into the fight.  I tried for a grapevine but Gigi just laughed “that isn’t going to work” – reminding me of her spectacular ring entrance – and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, order the videos of her matches from Catzclub and you’ll see.  We were moving from orthodox to unorthodox back to orthodox positions as we grappled – at one point my ankle was trapped and I had to work out how to free it improvising the escape.  As I broke clear we agreed to take a break to towel down and take on water.

There were 7 minutes left and the battle was reaching its climax.  Gigi went straight for my legs to take me down rugby style in the final exchange.  I crouched low to keep my centre of gravity low and make it harder for Gigi to do this.  She ended up having to take me down with a headlock.  She pulled me into her body scissors and I was feeling it but had to bluff my facial expressions as if I was not feeling it while I tried to adjust position to relieve the pain.  I had to be careful with my escape as she went for the same hammer lock that Penny got me with.  I grabbed my vulnerable arm behind my back with the other arm and held it safe before pulling it away from the hammer lock hold.  We ended up on our knees side on holding each other’s heads and shoulders each trying to get a leg round to capture the opponent’s waist.  We fell back tussling side on when Berni called time.  The match ended 0-0 and we gave each other a hug and agreed we would have a rematch.

I used the shower once more before Chris, Berni, Gigi and I headed our separate ways .  It was an excellent afternoon of sessioning.  Big thanks to everyone at Catzclub – I’ll be back soon."

"
Penny 3-0 The Amazing Spider-Mouth

I tore out of work and headed straight to the station, parking my car in the last available space just in time to jump on the 1145 to Nottingham.  Arrived early so grabbed an iced coffee at the city centre shopping mall.  I texted Chris and Berni who were already at Catzclub headquarters so I headed straight over – the ring was looking great and I was introduced to my first opponent Penny who was looking slim and fit with purple gym bottoms matching her purple gym pants and she was wearing durable black gym top and obviously up for a good workout.  We warmed up and then it was time for the match to commence.

She went for my neck and shoulders to take me down to the mats but I stood firm and went down on my own terms rolling on top for the full mount position.  I tried to place her arms beside her head and trap them between my knees but she wriggled and turned and I could not get the pin going.  Penny arched her back to push me up and that gave her enough room to quickly slide out from under me and get up on her knees.  She was too quick for me and pulled me straight into a body scissors.  I reached behind to try and dislodge her ankles and escape but I had to be careful because with my hands behind my back, she could have easily moved into a triangle position or even a head scissors.  I had to keep eye contact with her to read any attempt to switch holds.  I leaned forwards to get my feet on the ground and pull my way out of the scissors but temporarily risked being caught in a guillotine hold.  Fortunately for me, Penny did not see the opportunity.  I stood up and threatened to do a Boston crab – Penny simply said “try it”; I turned her onto her front and stepped over but Penny bent her legs and pushed hard again and escaped before I could get into position to apply the Boston crab.

We got back on our feet and re-engaged.  I managed to get behind her and tried a nelson move but it did not work – she had the flexibility to pull her arms clear quite easily.  I then tried a body scissors from behind but Flame went for my ankles using a move that flame used successfully the last time I was here at Catzclub.  I managed to evade it and Penny turned round on her knees to face me and we grabbed hold of each other for control.  Side on I pulled her right arm over my left shoulder and grabbed her right leg with my right arm.  When I planted one foot on the ground, Penny had an idea I was going to lift her clean off the canvas and asked “what do I do?” – I advised her to hang on tight.  I lifted her up and did an airplane spin before setting her back down on the mats.  She must have thought the room was spinning – but it did not count as a point for me.  We took a break to towel down and take on some water.  Still 0-0.

Back into battle, I was on top but Penny scissored my right leg and I could feel the circulation being cut off.  I gradually worked the leg clear but Penny used her flexibility to apply a body scissors and once again I risked being caught in a guillotine hold as I leaned forward trying to use my body weight to pull clear.  This time Penny pushed my left arm around my back with her right and then reached over my shoulder to pull it up in a hammer lock while scissoring me.  I left it too late to start to pull clear and my arm was in a position from which my strength could not have helped pull it clear and I had to tap.  1-0 to Penny.

After taking on water and towelling down, we reconnected from a standing position and I ended up on my back applying my spider defence of capturing one of Penny’s legs between my two legs.  I managed to then push her other leg between my legs and roll on top, switching to a cross body pin position and looking for an American hold or a kimoura.  I was not successful and reverted to the cross body pin but could not get Penny’s near shoulder down.  I fired my leg back across her body and tried for a grapevine but it was hurting me more than her so I abandoned this option.  I was working really hard and sweating a lot and eventually we agreed to take a break for water.

We moved towards each other on the mats and I got right up close face to face with her and she stood her ground and we had a proper stare down – out eyeballs an inch apart – she did not blink once!  Then she flung her arms round my neck and it was back to wrestling as we tumbled to the canvas once more, wrestling vigorously for position.  This time it was Penny who captured my waist and applied the body scissors perfectly.  I tapped and it was 2-0 to Penny.

There was only 2 minutes to go and I needed 2 points for a draw and 3 points for a win – it was not looking likely.  We launched into each other for the final exchange which was a vigorous physical confrontation, ending with Penny gaining another submission from me by way of body scissors.  3-0 to Penny.  This was an impressive performance by a much lighter opponent than myself and a thoroughly enjoyable 200th bout for myself.  I helped her up from the canvas and we embraced as I congratulated her on her win.

A really nice surprise at half time as Flame paid a visit to see us all.  The Catzclub athletes get on really well and Flame was also an opponent of mine recently.  Berni, Chris, Flame, Penny and I had a great chat and then Gigi arrived in good time for my second bout of the day.  I grabbed a shower and changed my kit before the second bout."
